JOB TITLE: Research Associate


Job Summary

The candidate will work with senior government affairs consultants to assist developing and implementing comprehensive government affairs strategies for our clients. Primary job responsibilities include monitoring and reporting on state government meetings, publishing newsletters, maintaining a comprehensive bill tracking system, conducting research on policy issues, and drafting white papers and talking points.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Monitor and take detailed notes at legislative and non-legislative government meetings.
• Draft and publish two weekly newsletters.
• Input all bill tracking information into system, including updates to legislation and send weekly reports to clients.
• Maintain consulting team’s calendars of legislative and non-legislative government meetings and coordinate coverage of those meetings.
• Analyze current statutes, policy and proposed legislation in NC and other states as it relates to current prospective clients.
• Perform research on political and policy related questions assigned by the consulting team.

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of North Carolina State Government, politics and the legislative and regulatory process. In addition, the following skills are required:

• Excellent written and verbal skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and proven ability to follow-through on assignments.
• Ability to keep numerous projects on track at one time.
• Strong team and relationship building skills.
• Must have strong abilities to work both independently and in teams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Power Point, Outlook, Excel, etc.).


• At minimum, a bachelor’s degree in political science or a similar field.
• 1 year in state government or some other political organization preferred (internships qualify)
